Modern Ghosts
A Senior Capstone Exhibition
In the face of stereotypes and prejudice, what would you do? Would you make yourself as small as possible, or remain confident in your own identity? This exhibition hopes to open a conversation around the way Muslims react to Islamophobia and prejudice. When we do not embrace our identity as Muslims, not only do we feel uncomfortable with who we are, but also leave a blank canvas upon which others can paint whatever misrepresentation and stereotypes they like. We are students, artists, teachers, friends, neighbors, health workers, entrepreneurs… and much more. We are multifaceted and colorful. Why do we then make ourselves invisible? As Muslims, being judged and misunderstood is already happening to us whether we like it or not, we might as well face it. Let us be bold. Let us be confident.
