NYUAD Institute in collaboration with NYUAD Art Gallery invites you to join Tania El Khoury, creator of Gardens Speak in conversation with Salwa Mikdadi, NYU Abu Dhabi faculty and guest curator of Permanent Temporariness. They will discuss the creative process behind El Khoury’s sound installation Gardens Speak and its relevance to the themes within Permanent Temporariness, artistic practice that blurs the lines between performance and visual arts, politics and personal, and issues that are current and timeless.

Tania El Khoury created Gardens Speak, containing the oral histories of ten ordinary people who were buried in Syrian gardens. Each narrative has been carefully constructed with the friends and family members of the deceased to retell their stories as they themselves may have recounted it. They are compiled with found audio that evidences their final moments.

Gardens Speak, will be presented Monday, April 27th through Friday April 30th in the NYUAD Arts Center, Red Theater.

This Artist Talk with Tania El Khoury is in connection with Permanent Temporariness: Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti, on view in the NYUAD Art Gallery through June 9, 2018.
