Saidi Ali Nasser Sowafy, Good Wishes, 2017
Oil on canvas
Join us on Sunday, January 12 at 5:30pm in the Project Space for the opening reception for Saidi Ali Nasser Sowafy: Ugandan Splendor – Imagining Home and History
Saidi Ali Nasser Sowafy’s paintings immerse audiences in richly symbolic visual representations of 20th century Ugandan village cultural and social life. Exhibition Curator Tamu Al-Islam chose this title based on the artist’s vivid and multi-layered color palette as well as his complex and rich imaginary of societal events impacting those communities.
Curated by Hashel Al Lamki and featuring the latest work by artist Almaha Jaralla, this exhibition recounts the recent history of the Arabian Peninsula through the observation of collective memories of indigenous people and their relocation within the region.
The Flow of Stillness is a solo exhibition that takes audiences on a journey in nature. Artist Mahmood Al Daoud finds inspiration in nature in all of his works, and ever since moving to the UAE, he has been taken by the UAE’s unique environment.
Allow Me Not to Explain is a solo exhibition that grew out of the artist’s struggle to explain what her work is about.
