Curated by Emirati arts researcher Nasser Abdullah, this exhibition will feature new commissions by UAE-based emerging artists who question their place in an era of globalization and how, through the rise of technological advancements, society has formed a unified existence that can be referred to as a ‘universal identity’.
UAE Unlimited supports emerging Emirati and UAE-based artists by producing and promoting their works through strategic collaborations with art and culture organizations across the country. The initiative thrives on creating opportunities for young and emerging UAE-based talent, thereby contributing to the overall cultural production in the UAE.
Presented in a series of new installations, these artists explore the very concept of environment - natural, artificial, virtual - and share a distinctly arch, speculative, conceptual practice, extrapolating imagined worlds within existing ones.
"Go Back to Move Forward" presents artworks by fourteen artists who grapple with an unsettling past, a turbulent present, and an imagined future. These artists navigate the socio-political landscapes of the Arab world and reimagine reality through collective memory.
The NYUAD Art Gallery presents "The Sovereign Forest" in a groundbreaking collaboration with Ishara Art Foundation which hosts Kanwar’s solo project "Such a Morning" from January 20 – May 20, 2020.
