Tracing: Permanent Temporariness
a zoom roundtable with artists Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti, and curators Salwa Mikdadi and Bana Kattan, moderated by Maya Allison
In this reunion, artists Sandi Hilal and Alessandro Petti, talk with Salwa Mikdadi (Art Historian) and Bana Kattan (Curator), co-curators of the exhibition Permanent Temporariness. The conversation will be moderated by Maya Allison, Executive Director of The NYUAD Art Gallery.
The conversation will trace the exhibition from the origins of the various landmark installations, to their collective re-staging in the first institutional retrospective of Hilal and Petti’s work at The NYUAD Art Gallery in 2018, to the exhibition’s tour to the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven in 2019. The panelists will explore how the context changes the meaning and relevance of the exhibition, as well as its intention and message. In addition, the artists will talk about how the exhibition led to their latest publication of the same name, produced together with the Van Abbemuseum in collaboration with The NYUAD Art Gallery. The book accounts for 15 years of research and experimentation.
This event is part of the TRACE: Archives and Reunions series, and will mark the publishing of the online archive for the Permanent Temporariness exhibition, including audio guides, the youth guide, and new installation views.
