Representing Humanity in Virtual Reality
Representing Humanity in Virtual Reality
A conversation with Cao Fei and Hoda AlKhzaimi
Join a conversation with artist Cao Fei, featured in our current exhibition, not in, of, along, or relating to a line. Together with NYUAD Faculty member and Director of the Center of Cyber Security, Hoda AlKhzaimi, the conversation will explore the opportunities and limitations of Virtual Reality (VR) as a tool to represent humanity. Both speakers discuss their relationship to VR based on their respective backgrounds and will explore questions around empathy and human experience in their given contexts.
This program accompanies the virtual exhibition not in, of, along, or relating to a line for which the Gallery commissioned a new work from Cao Fei that includes a VR character. In the exhibition, nine artists and art collectives make visible both the restrictions and the freedoms of digital culture, and explore how identities and histories are created, transformed, or invented through our relationship with technology.
