In this discussion, the artist Saodat Ismailova will reflect on her artistic trajectory and the use of archival documents and historical scholarship in her art practice. She will focus on veiling, the subject of her short film, Her Right (2020), a component of a bigger film that was not made, and a theme of a current film-in-progress, Nurkhon. These works address the issue of the veil historically as well as the re-veiling that is intensively taking place in Central Asia today. The event will be moderated by art historian Christianna Bonin (American University of Sharjah) and historian Masha Kirasirova (NYUAD).

Presented by the division of Arts and Humanities in collaboration with the NYUAD Art Gallery.
